Research Assistant

The Human Behavior Project (HBP) is seeking talented and enthusiastic students to join our research team. As a member of the HBP, research assistants engage in data and variable collection from top research journals in the disciplines of Psychology, Health and Nursing, Sociology, Management, Marketing, Information Systems, Communication, Economics, and Science and Innovation Policy. Research assistants are also responsible for paragraph parsing of all articles utilized on the project, as well as hypothesis collection among other tasks. Larger scale sub-projects also take place on the team, and opportunities are possible to work on tasks outside of the job description. All research assistants have the opportunity for advancement within the project, and promotions are fairly frequent. ((We ask for at least a 1 year commitment due to the heavy training process. All RAs must be current undergraduate or M.A. level students. Unfortunately we cannot hire anyone not currently attending the university as a student – this includes recent graduates.** Pay begins at $10.20/hour and increases by $1.00 for every 200 hours worked. Promotions also come with a pay raise of $1 dollar with the pay scale capping at $16/hour for more seasoned research assistants. Hours are flexible and can be tailored to your schedule.

Software Developer / Research Assistant

The Human Behavior Project is seeking a talented student software developer and research assistant to take over the concurrent development of our in-house web applications in addition to the systems administration responsibility of our supporting infrastructure. We are particularly interested in candidates with a demonstrated history of developing, testing, and deploying applications on infrastructure that they manage. Pay will start between $13.00 and $17.00/hr depending on experience; however, exceptions can be made for exemplary applicants. Your work will directly support the efforts of a team of graduate and undergraduate research assistants, and will be crucial to furthering the project’s research objectives. Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the existing code base of our literature collection, parsing, and analysis applications
  • Develop, test, and publish new applications using C#, ASP.NET, and LINQ/LINQ to SQL; utilizing SQL Server 2010 as a back-end
  • Support in-production applications, and fix bugs not caught in testing as necessary
  • Use Git to track changes and deploy finished applications to our production server environment
  • Use our internal project management solution to track and respond to issues
  • Maintain the project’s supporting technical infrastructure

Required experience

  • At least 1 year of experience playing a significant part in the development of data-centric ASP.NET applications utilizing C# in the Visual Studio IDE
  • Some professional experience designing web applications that utilize HTML and CSS
  • Ability to write an application from scratch, test it, and deploy it single-handedly
  • Ability to manually assemble trivial SQL queries
